Getting to the SYY airport

Passengers of Stornoway Airport should allow themselves plenty of time in order to get to the SYY airport. The SYY airport recommends its passengers to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled departure time. Also, the airline check-in counters strictly close approximately 30 minutes before the departure of the aircraft.

Check-in online

On arrival at the SYY airport, passengers proceed directly to the security checkpoint areas. Passengers should ensure that they follow the instructions given from their airline carefully and attentively and hold all the relevant and required paperwork, a valid passport, and photographic ID to present at the security.

The SYY airport kindly reminds passengers who are checking in online that it is their duty and responsibility to make sure that they arrive at the SYY Departure Gate on time, according to the published boarding time. Besides, passengers are advised to allow enough time to pass through the security procedures. Stornoway airport recommends all online checked-in passengers to arrive at the SYY airport no later than one hour before their aircraft departure.

Check-in at the airport

The SY airport check-in desks are situated on the left-hand side of the main terminal building. Passengers must ensure that they hold a passport or photographic ID to present to the check-in staff. After checking-in, ana airline boarding card will be issued and given to a passenger once the check-in staff labels and weighs passenger's luggage. A boarding pass is essential to hold to proceed through the security along with the passport or photographic ID before leaving the Departure Lounge. All passengers should be aware of the fact that Stornoway airport cannot accept and take responsibility for any passenger who misses his/her flight due to the reason that they did not allow enough time for the checking and security procedures.

Baggage Restrictions

Passengers who are flying via Stornoway Airport must introduce the requirements and restrictions of SYY airport. Below there is information listed regarding baggage requirements, and liquid package, that all passengers must meet. However, some airlines make certain restrictions, especially about carry-on and baggage packing issues. Hence, all passengers are kindly recommended to check with their airline to get the most up-to-date information on how to pack and which items will not be allowed to carry on board.

The Department for Transport has set some restrictions for baggage requirements at SYY airport. The maximum size for an item of a carry-on bag should be 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm. Besides, the size of hand baggage must include handles, wheels, and other external pockets. If an item placed in hand baggage is more significant than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm, the airport staff makes the right not to allow the passenger to bring the item on board, in the aircraft cabin. However, airlines only allow smaller bags rather than the overall size—also, the number of bags depending on the airline. Hence, passengers of SYY airport are recommended to check first with their airlines.

Security restrictions also include liquids, gels, aerosols, or pastes allowance through security. Passengers can take gels, liquids, or pastes on board, in the cabin, if they put them in the special package in their hand luggage which meets the following restrictions:

  • The liquid must be kept in a container with a maximum volume of 100ml
  • All liquid containers should fit into a resealable, transparent 1-liter plastic bag that meets approximately 20 cm x 20 cm sizes.
  • The plastic bag should be put in a tray separately at the x-ray point.
