Shreveport Regional Airport Departures

TSA checkpoint

Security at Shreveport Regional airport is done by Transportation Security Administration, well-known as TSA. Even though the airport terminal is open 24 hours a day, TSA checkpoints open at 4:45 am. There were two security checkpoints at the airport, but in 2018 airport administration consolidated these two into one location. Now TSA security checkpoint area is in the central atrium.

At security desks, every passenger must remove their jackets, belts, jewelry, and any item consisting of metal. TSA officers place these things in the security bins for the screening process. Passengers go through the full-body screening too. After the security officers check passengers' carry-on bags under the scanner, they are good to go. But there is a list of things of prohibited items, and passengers should not keep in their bags: at the security desk, passengers must remove any electronic item more significant than a cell phone out of their carry-on bag. This rule goes with laptops, e-readers, cameras, and so on. Lighters, guns, weapons, and sharp items are also restricted on board. The full list of restricted items is on the official website of the Transportation Security Administration.

Identification

Every passenger traveling within the U.S. and is under 18, is not required to provide any identification document at the airport. Others, who are 18 or older, must have their identification card with them, along with boarding pass. The acceptable identification documents include U.S. passport, U.S. passport card, driver's license, DHS trusted traveler cards such as NEXUS, FAST, SENTRI, Global Entry. Also, passengers can identify themselves with the U.S. Department of Defense ID, permanent resident card, border crossing card, state-issued enhanced driver's license. Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID, HSPD-12 PIV card, Foreign government-issued passport, Transportation worker identification credential, etc. are also accepted identification forms.

Recommendations

TSA recommends arriving at the airport 2 hours before departure time. Before getting in the line of security screening, every passenger must check the carry-on bag, organize it accurately, and not include prohibited items. For the short wait time at the security checkpoints, passengers are encouraged to wear easily removable shoes without laces. After screening, passengers should collect their personal belongings from the security bins.
