Lugano Airport Departures
Check-in
All commuters are required to bring valid identification (personal identity card or passport) along with the airline ticket and baggage to check-in. Once the registration has been finished and the hold luggage accepted, a boarding pass will be issued. The service is available every day of the week from 06:00 am to 06:10 pm.
On the boarding pass, travelers can find the boarding time, gate number, and the seat assigned on the aircraft. Commuters are advised to make sure to keep this safe as it will be required at security control as well as at the boarding point. It is anyway recommended to double-check the gate number and boarding time on the screens available throughout the terminal building as these may change due to unforeseen circumstances.
Lugano Airport represents one of the few airports in the world, allowing a check-in service up to 20 minutes before departure.
However, in case of a large group or requiring special assistance, it is recommended to arrive at least an hour before the scheduled departure time. In any eventuality, it is the responsibility of passengers to check with the airline the maximum time limit allowed for check-in.
Security
Security represents a top priority at the airport; therefore, for reducing waiting times at security checkpoints and achieving maximum customer satisfaction, the facility requires passengers’ support. Travelers can find a list of procedures and regulations to keep in mind while packing that will help them start their journey in a fast and timely manner.
Hold Luggage Checks
After check-in, the baggage is screened before it can be loaded into the aircraft for ensuring it doesn’t contain any prohibited items. In some cases it is required for the luggage to be opened and checked, this will be carried out by a specialist in the presence of the owner,

For helping to speed the security process, travelers should make the following preparations when at control point:
- The laptop must be unpacked in a separate tray.
- Liquids should be carried in the re-sealable and transparent bag.
- Clothing (jacket, coat, etc…) should be placed in the next tray. Commuters should add their handbag and all items that will fit into the bin. All metal objects like watches, keys, coins, mobile phones, iPods, cameras, lighters, etc. have to be screened. For speeding up the process, it is suggested to put them in the jacket or pocket bag.
- Any items that do not fit into a tray should be placed directly onto the conveyor.
- Passengers are required to pass through the metal detector when instructed to do so by a member of staff. Commuters may be asked to remove their shoes if the metal detector senses the presence of metal parts inside them.
- If the alarm is triggered, travelers may have to be searched.
- After these procedures, passengers can pick up their belongings. If the second check of their hand luggage is required, they will be instructed to open the bag for the security representative to check it manually. In some cases, an additional search may be necessary for a separate room.
