Cardiff Airport Departures
Security
Every passenger passing through the facility is required to go through the security processes. X-ray devices screen all luggage that is carried in the aircraft hold. Some items are prohibited in hold baggage.
When commuters arrive at the security search area, they will be asked to produce their boarding card – this can be an e-boarding on their airline’s app or a paper boarding card.
In the preparation area, travelers will be asked to remove everything from their pockets and remove the belt. In case of wearing a jacket, fleece, coat, or thick sweater, they will be asked to remove it and have it placed in a tray. Commuters may also be asked to remove footwear. All boots must be removed.
Food or powders (excluding gels, pastes, or liquids) should be kept into hold baggage where possible. Even though these items are allowed in hand luggage, they may obstruct images on the x-ray machine or may require additional checks. Passengers who need to take these on board, are highly urged to allow extra time at security.
Online check-in
Many of the airlines at CWL offer an online check-in option. Customers can visit their airline’s website a few days before they are due to fly for more advice. Only check-in online ahead of the flight, print off all boarding passes on their booking, and ensure to bring the required form of identification. On the day of the trip, passengers can drop off any hold baggage in the check-in hall, or in case of having hand luggage, only proceed straight to Airport security with both boarding pass and ID.
Checking in at the Airport
The check-in hall can be found as soon as heading through the airport’s main entrance. On arrival, commuters should find their relevant check-in counter, indicated by the screens above each one. There are representatives of staff on hand to advise each passenger if they require assistance. When being called forward, travelers should present their flight confirmation and a valid form of ID. Then they will be asked to weigh all items of hold luggage and hand luggage on the scales before checking in each item.
It is essential to make sure that any items of luggage adhere to the airline’s strict weight limit policy and that passengers make the airline aware in case of planning to travel with any oversized or excess items in advance. Any discrepancies can acquire additional charges, cause a delay, and severely affect the check-in process.
If passengers are only traveling with hand luggage, they should also ensure that this is in line with the airline’s restrictions, as they might be charged if the bag is oversized. Each airline’s luggage restrictions differ, so it is always better to check specific information with them beforehand.
