History

The history of Bangor International Airport begins in 1921, as Godfrey Field. Godfrey Field was land owned by the local Edward Rawson Godfrey. Two years later, U.S. Army Air Corps landed on the field for a practice mission. Passenger flights began in 1931, and the first airline serving the trip was Boston-Maine Airways.

During the Second World War, the airport was taken over by the Army Air Corps. Godfrey Field was called the Bangor Army Air Field at that time. United Army Air Forces remained at the airport until 1968.

In 2007, the Federal Aviation Administration granted Bangor International Airport with 2.9 million dollars to upgrade aviation equipment and also terminal building. The renovation process started in 2008, and the construction and adding new facilities completed in 2009.

Bangor International Airport is spanned on 2079 acres of land. At an elevation, the airport is on 192 feet. Bangor International Airport has a single asphalt runway, which is 3,487 meters in length. BGR also has one concrete helipad. According to the statistics of the Federal Aviation Administration in 2017 airport served 487,000 passengers, and in 2016, it made 41,209 aircraft operations.
